Hammam Culture is a Turkish tradition dating back to olden times. Galatasay Hammam is a hammam (or steam bath house) in the Galatasaray district of the city which was one of important trade centers in Ottoman times. The Hammam was built by Sultan Beyazit Han II in 1481, then was updated repeatedly with repairs and modifications during the eras of Sultan Selim II, Sultan Mehmet IV, the Hunter, Sultan Ahmet III and Sultan Mahmud I. The exterior of the bath has also been kept historically accurate.
